Tihu is a small town situated in Nalbari district of Assam. Tihu is bordered by villages Nannattary and Makibaha on the south, villages Haldibari and Naykuchi on the north, to the east is the Kamrup district (Guwahati being 100 kms away from Tihu) and Bongaigaon (being 100 kms away) is located to its west. The nearest town to Tihu is Pathsala.
History of Tihu
Tihu was earlier known as ‘Dihu’ after a river named Dihu that flows through it. According to Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, ‘Di’ means water and ‘Hu’ means flow in Bodo language. According to Banikanta Kakati, the name of the river changed to Tihu with time and so the town name also changed.

According to the 2001 census, Tihu had a population of 4301. The average literacy rate is 79% and the population percentage of males to females is 53% to 47%.

The population of Tihu is engaged in the collection of paddy products, manufacturing of hardware and clothing. There are small businesses set up by the local people in Greater Tihu town.

which is located in the south-end of Tihu.
